The Indonesian Alliance of Medical Physics Education Institutions (AIPFMI), in collaboration with the University of Indonesia and SDG DAAD/Ulm University, Germany, organized a workshop titled “Developing Education and Research in Medical Physics in Indonesia.” The workshop took place at the Department of Physics, University of Indonesia, over three days from July 29 to 31, 2024, and was attended by lecturers from member universities of AIPFMI as key partners in this project.

The project aims to revise and enhance the modern curriculum for Medical Physics courses while training and educating relevant academic staff. Through these efforts, it is expected to significantly improve the quality of teaching, education, and research in medical physics across Indonesia. Furthermore, the project also has an international scope, aiming to support Medical Physics education and research in Southeast Asia and Africa. This is realized through contributions from international students from Cambodia, Kenya, Zimbabwe, and Palestine, who are currently studying at the Department of Physics, University of Indonesia.

The outcomes of this project, including the developed curriculum and instructional design for teaching, will be implemented at AIPFMI member universities to ensure long-term benefits. During the workshop, participants discussed various key topics in Medical Physics, such as radiodiagnostics, nuclear medicine, and radiotherapy.

The event also featured three expert speakers from Germany who delivered their presentations online. Prof. Martin Fiebich presented on “Academic and Training for Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology Medical Physics in Germany.” Prof. Bernhard Sattler discussed “Education and Training in Nuclear Medicine Medical Physics in Germany,” and Prof. Jens Fleckenstein shared insights on “Medical Physics in Radiation Therapy: Training and Research Program at University Medical Centre Mannheim.”

Two lecturers from the Department of Physics, Diponegoro University (UNDIP), Prof. Wahyu Setia Budi and Prof. Eko Hidayanto, also participated in the event. Their involvement reflects UNDIP’s commitment to advancing the development of Medical Physics education and research, both nationally and internationally.
